Dr Syed Shariq Hasan is a public health specialist with special interests in health education as well as family medicine, preventive medicine and psychosomatic medicine. He is a post-doctoral research fellow in gastroenterology at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust’s Wythenshawe Hospital, where he manages the department of psycho-gastroenterology and hypnotherapy. Dr Hasan is also an honorary lecturer at the Manchester University.

Over the past three decades, Dr Hasan has acquired wide-ranging experience in healthcare systems globally. He has worked as a clinician and public health physician in primary, secondary and tertiary care facilities in the public and private sectors.

 Dr Hasan has completed specialist training in public health, family medicine and complementary medicine and received his PhD in medicine from the University of Manchester. His PhD project was funded by a grant from the National Institute of Health Research-NIHR UK. In 1997, Dr Hasan founded Healthwatch, a preventive health awareness and research program in developing nations. He has also worked as an assistant professor, head of the department of community medicine, at the Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry- LCMD Karachi and a post-graduate tutor in health and nutrition at the Allama Iqbal Open University, Pakistan.

 Dr Hasan is a clinical research hypnotherapist with a specialisation in gut-focused hypnotherapy. He has used these techniques to help patients with a wide range of medical conditions and mental health problems, including anxiety and insomnia. Dr Hasan’s hypnotherapy skills proved especially helpful for patients and NHS staff since 2020, especially when he began offering these services online at the very start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

 Dr Hasan is passionate about using the bio-psychosocial model for the purpose of understanding health and illness and providing a holistic treatment model to his patients.

He has published many papers and has presented his research at both national and international conferences. He has received several awards for his accomplishments and his work has been acclaimed in articles, books and the media worldwide.
