Dr Lisa Shanahan
Consultant
Dr Lisa Shanahan is a Senior Clinical Psychologist who qualified from University College London in 2005 and is registered with HCPC as a practitioner. She has worked for the NHS for over 20 years with a wide variety of client groups (including forensic, homeless and psychosis) spanning the life cycle across the full range of care settings. Over the past 10 years she has dedicated her attention to working with adolescents. Offering a flexible, creative and outreach approach she has found to be imperative in engaging young people who might otherwise miss out due to barriers in accessing services. Working with this development stage she has found it to be incredibly exciting and humbling as it is an optimal time to bring about potential positive change for the rest of the young person’s life.
She particularly values the importance of a holistic individually tailored approach to the needs of clients, and how social, cultural, religious, socioeconomic and familial factors impact on the meaning and understanding of mental health and wellbeing.
She is an experienced practitioner who draws on a range of therapeutic models depending on individual needs using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT-A), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Systemic (including Narrative and Solution Focused) among others.
