Event Overview
The Global Community Engagement and Involvement Group (GCEIG) held its October 2025 session at the Marlborough Road Community Hub in Salford, bringing together women from diverse ethnic backgrounds to focus on health awareness, mental wellbeing, and community learning.
The event coincided with World Mental Health Day, marking an important moment to promote awareness and open dialogue around mental health in our communities.
Opening Remarks and Mental Health Awareness
Dr Rakhshi Mamon, CEO of the Manchester Global Foundation, warmly welcomed all attendees and shared an inspiring talk about the importance of mental health, reminding everyone that “there is no health without mental health.” She encouraged the women to speak openly about their mental health awareness needs and wellbeing challenges.
Many participants shared their experiences, particularly around the stresses of being caregivers. In response, Dr Rakhshi kindly agreed to facilitate a future session focused on carer mental wellbeing, recognising the vital role many women play in supporting their families and communities.
The session was coordinated by Mrs Rima Nserat, who continues to lead the Manchester GCEIG with great dedication and compassion.
Health Check-Up and Awareness
The event began with a free health check-up, which included blood pressure monitoring for community women.
- Several participants recorded healthy readings.
- A few were advised to monitor their blood pressure more closely and book GP appointments for follow-up, as elevated readings were detected in some cases.
This activity helped raise awareness about the importance of regular health checks and early prevention, particularly among women who may not routinely access such services.
Community Connection and Wellbeing
After the health checks, participants enjoyed a friendly tea and coffee chat, reconnecting after the previous CEI event in August. The relaxed atmosphere allowed women to share updates, support each other, and strengthen community ties — reflecting the CEI Group’s values of inclusion, wellbeing, and togetherness.
First Aid Awareness and Training
The second part of the activity was delivered in collaboration with Cookson First Aid, a Manchester-based organisation providing emergency first aid training for local communities.
Richie, the first aid trainer, led an excellent and interactive session on basic first aid and life-saving techniques, ensuring participants gained practical knowledge and confidence in handling emergencies.
Engagement and Feedback
The October session was fully booked, with all 25 participants attending. Due to the high level of interest generated through community outreach, additional registrations had to be placed on a waiting list. Plans are already in motion to arrange another session soon.
Feedback from participants was outstanding. Women from a range of ethnic backgrounds expressed gratitude and enthusiasm, noting that they felt more informed, empowered, and supported — both in their health and personal wellbeing.
Conclusion
The October 2025 CEI Group event was a remarkable success, combining mental health awareness, physical health promotion, practical skills training, and social connection in an inclusive and welcoming space.
This event reflects the shared mission of PILL, Manchester Global Foundation, and the Ethnic Health Forum — to empower diverse communities, improve wellbeing, and ensure every voice is heard, valued, and represented.
